This is a small shady town courtyard garden, overshadowed by beech and cherry trees, with only limited places to enjoy the sun. A Chinese slate was used to create glittery terraces and bring the indoors through to the outdoors. A trickling stone was the focus from the newly built garden room.
There are rich colours and strong textures of plants such as Euphorbia 'Fireglow', Cercis 'Forest Pansy', Heuchera and Hakonecloa with hardy ferns that thrive in the shade.
Painted walls give an almost coastal feeling of light and space. New trellis and climbing plants such as jasmine and Actinidia take the eye up to the sky, framed by a tracery of branches.
